Jim was a true Aussie. Did not care about money, possessions or status. Played footy for Bannockburn, Winchelsea and Bunyip into his late 30s. Trainer of greyhounds and horses. Farmr of chickens and keen vege gardener. Recreational drinker once he met Mary and the O’Farrells and loved the Irish.

Son of Jim Lowndes (25 years a road construction foreman) and Margaret Willey, married at 16. Eldest son of six and seven sisters, six surviving. Father of 4, three surviving. 9 grand children. Left school at 12 joining the local postal service. Apprentice baker in Winchelsea and baker throughout Victoria.
